He developed a love for boxing at a younger age and competed as a light-heavyweight and heavyweight in his amateur career winning the European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2006.

Beterbiev participated in the 2008 Olympics and performed exceptionally well and at the 2009 World Championships, he won the light heavyweight title.

Beterbiev made his professional debut in July 2013 at the Bell Centre where he won over Christian Cruz via a second-round knock. He also fought on the undercard of Jean Pascal vs. Lucian Bute, beating Gabriel Lecrosnier by knockout in the fourth round.

Beterbiev since becoming a pro has been engaged in several bouts. He’s a unified light heavyweight champion, having held the IBF title since 2017, the WBC title since 2019, and the WBO title since 2022.

In January 2023, Beterbiev made major headlines after defeating Anthony Yarde by knocking him out in the 8th round. Prior to the knockout, his opponent, Yarde was ahead of him on two of three scorecards after seven rounds.

With this victory at The O2 Arena in London on the night of Saturday, January 28, 2022, Artur Beterbiev retained his WBO, WBC, and IBF light-heavyweight. Before the bout, he had had 18 knockouts in his 18 previous fights.

As of Sunday, January 29, 2023, Beterbiev had 19 knockouts to his belt and is hoping to secure an undisputed light-heavyweight showdown against WBA champion Dmitry Bivol on a yet-to-announced date.
