British Actor, Comedian, Singer and Television Host, James Kimberley Corden was born on August 22nd 1978 in Hillingdon, Greater London in the United Kingdom. He was to a musician father, Malcolm Corden and Margaret Corden who was a social worker. James shares the same parent with his two sisters, Ruth Corden and Andrea Henry Corden.
Early Life and Career
James Corden’s father, Malcolm Corden was a musician who played the tenor saxophone and the clarinet in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. His mother, Margaret Corden was also a social worker. He attended Park Middle School and Holmer Green Upper School while growing up in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire. He has two younger sisters. Corden made his stage debut at the age of 18 with a one-line role in the 1996 musical Martin Guerre. His first TV reporting gig was with the BBC’s Good Morning with Anne and Nick, where he interviewed Meat Loaf. Gareth Jones in the 1999 series Boyz Unlimited was one of his early television roles. He also appeared in Tango advertisements in 1998, as a bookish student in Teachers, and in an episode of Hollyoaks in 2000. In 2004, Corden appeared as a guest on Little Britain and Dalziel and Pascoe. Whatever Happened to Harold Smith? (1999), Mike Leigh’s All or Nothing (2002), Heartlands (2002), and Cruise of the Gods (2002) are among Corden’s early film credits.
Corden played Jamie Rymer in the British television series Fat Friends from 2000 to 2005. For his efforts, he was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for Network Newcomer On Screen in 2000. Corden began playing Timms in the original London stage production of Alan Bennett’s play The History Boys in 2004, as well as in Broadway, Sydney, Wellington, and Hong Kong productions. He also appeared in the play’s radio adaptation and the 2006 film adaptation. He made his film debut in the 2006 film Starter for Ten. Corden co-starred in his own BBC Three sitcom, Gavin & Stacey, from 2007 to 2010. Corden won the BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance in 2008, and Gavin & Stacey won the Audience Award for Programme of the Year. The show won Best TV Comedy at the 2008 British Comedy Awards in December 2008. Gavin & Stacey also won the National Television Awards in 2010 for Most Popular Comedy Programme.
In the 2015 New Year Honors, Corden was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to drama. On June 25, 2015, he received the honor from Princess Anne at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. During the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, Corden paid the salaries of furloughed employees on the Late Late Show. He also started a Feed the Children fundraising campaign with the NBA. Corden announced on January 6, 2022, that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He stated that he was fine and had already been fully vaccinated and boosted.
Personal Life
For several years, Corden shared a home with Dominic Cooper. Cooper introduced Corden to Julia Carey, his future wife, whom Cooper had known for years. On September 15, 2012, Corden married Carey. The Cordens are the parents of three children. Corden is a fan of West Ham United, a Premier League football club.
