Davis began training with Calvin Ford at Upton Boxing Center when he was five years old. He went on to have a very successful amateur boxing career, winning three straight National Silver Gloves Championships from 2006 to 2008, and then the National Golden Gloves Championship in 2012.
Davis also won two National Junior Olympics gold medals, two Ringside World Championships, and several other major championships. He concluded his amateur career with an impressive 206-15 record.
Davis made his professional boxing debut in early 2013 against Desi Williams, defeating him in the first round by knockout. By the summer of 2014, Davis had an 8-0 record. He maintained his perfect record for the rest of the year and into 2015, becoming the first guy to defeat Israel Suarez and Alberto Mora. Davis went undefeated in 2016, defeating Guillermo Avila and Mario Antonio Macias.
In early 2017, Davis challenged José Pedraza for the IBF super featherweight title. He ultimately won the battle by knockout in the seventh round, claiming the title. Davis went on to successfully defend his championship against Liam Walsh, whom he defeated by stoppage. However, prior to his second defense, he was stripped of his championship for refusing to weigh in, leaving the IBF title vacant. Davis won the bout against Francisco Fonseca.
In March 2018, Davis defeated Jesús Cuellar for the WBA super featherweight title, knocking him out in the third round. Early in 2019, he successfully defended his championship against Hugo Ruiz. Davis was victorious in his second defense against Ricardo Núñez that summer. At the end of 2019, he advanced to the lightweight category and defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa to win the WBA lightweight title. Davis successfully defended his championship on Halloween 2020, defeating Léo Santa Cruz by knockout; he also grabbed Santa Cruz’s WBA super featherweight title.
Davis advanced to the super lightweight division in June 2021, taking on undefeated WBA champion Mario Barrios. Even though the fight was competitive, Davis won via technical knockout. Later in the year, he returned to the lightweight division and faced Isaac Cruz. Davis went the full 12 rounds for the first time in his career, and he won unanimously.
Davis began 2022 with a victorious defense of his lightweight title against Rolando Romero, whom he was slated to fight the previous year when Romero was removed due to sexual assault claims. Davis only fought once in 2022. Early the next year, he faced undefeated WBA super featherweight champion Héctor Garcia.
