In the 2007 MLB draft, the Atlanta Braves selected Freeman in the second round. He began his minor league career with the Gulf Coast Braves and then played for the Rome Braves. Freeman started the 2009 season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. During the season, he was promoted to the Mississippi Braves.
After the 2009 season, Freeman joined the Arizona Fall League’s Peoria Saguaros. He later played for the Gwinnett Braves of the Class AAA International League to begin the 2010 season.
