Biography of Alex Carey
Alex Tyson Carey is an Australian international cricketer and former one-day international captain. He was born on August 27, 1991. He was a former Australian rules footballer who is now a wicket-keeper for the Australian national team in all formats.
He represents South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers in domestic cricket. When the Greater Western Sydney Giants entered the Australian Football League in 2012, he was dropped out of the squad and returned to his native state of South Australia, where he began to play local cricket.
Carey made his debut as a specialist top-order batsman in 2013, however, he struggled and was dropped. He dropped down the batting order and eventually became a wicketkeeper.
Carey began playing Australian rules football and cricket as a teenager, and as he grew older, he began to play football at a higher level, playing for Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) reserves division among adults at the age of 15.
Carey was named to South Australia’s side for the 2008 AFL Under 18 Championships in 2008, but he did not participate. He was also a member of the 2008 AIS/AFL Academy intake. In 2009, he advanced further by representing South Australia in the 2009 AFL Under 18 Championships, as well as earning the SANFL reserves premiership with Glenelg.
